MJ Gleeson have completed the construction of Key Worker residential accommodation on the site of a former car park at Arrowe Park  Hospital. The scheme comprises two seven storey architecturally designed contemporary units, connected together by a single storey link building. Based on early cost appraisals, the floors construction utilised comprised structural metal deck supported off compositely designed steel beams. Each building was clad in insulated panels supported off a steel framing system spanning vertically between the perimeter steelwork. For use by NHS staff a total of 184 en-suite bedrooms for sharers were provided with an additional twenty eight two bed apartments available for couples. Within the complex is a fully serviced 'hotel style' operation providing overnight, on-call and short term let accommodation.

Wellfield Medical Centre, Cheetham Hill

Atkinson Peck were appointed over 4 separate phases to extend/refurbish the Medical Centre. Phase 1 included provision of a new first floor common room/staff room facilitated by raising the roof to the front of the Medical Centre. Phase 2 comprised a small extension to the rear of the facility. Phase 3 included the extension of the waiting area to the rear of the Medical centre and the addition of a new Pharmacy, requiring substantial redesign of the existing timber roof structure supported off feature glu-laminated timber purlins. The final phase involved introduction of a new floor above the reception area accessed by a new lift shaft. Throughout all the works the Medical Centre remained in operation, requiring the structural design &  programme to be designed accordingly.

The keyworker residential accommodation built at Countess of Chester Hospital, Chester for Frontis Homes Ltd was designed by Ainsley Gommon Architects with the construction works carried out by Gleeson Construction Services Ltd. A total of 142 en-suite bedrooms for sharers were provided within five architecturally designed contemporary buildings containing a mixture of two, three and four bedroom apartments, all set within attractively designed landscaped grounds and with access controlled car parking. The project was awarded a commendation at the City of Chester Architectural Design Awards presented recently at Chez Jules, Chester.
